Co-founders Dean O'Sullivan and Issy Richardson wanted to design
simple, well made clothes that were practical yet imaginative and
stylish, after hearing about organic cotton. It made sense - why go
buying clothes that are harming the environment - and why wear clothes
covered in chemicals anyway? Their idea was to combine a subtle
environmental message into their clothes in the nicest way they could -
something that they themselves couldn't seem to find.
They both
left London in 2005 so that they could be near to their producer in
Singapore and at the same time, so that they could introduce organic
cotton somewhere new. Their unique style of prints combined with great
quality and their commitment to ethical trading and the environment,
has meant that Belle & Dean now has a small but growing following
from the different corners of the world.
Belle & Dean opened its new UK site in 2006, and in 2007 began to specialise in its popular baby and toddler wear.
